“Simply Jesus”, a unique upcoming missional training event facilitated by The Mosaic Network and featuring Carl Medearis, international expert in the field of Muslim-Christian relations and author of several books including “Tea With Hezbollah” and his latest, “Speaking of Jesus: The Art of Non-Evangelism,” will be held March 2-3, 2012.
This family friendly missional gathering is for all those who are weary and burnt out on religion and tired of trying to ‘defend’ Christianity, yet who still long to follow Jesus’ teaching in a fluid, rapidly changing world.
“We want to learn what it means to live out incarnational ways of practicing the mission of Jesus,” says The Mosaic Network’s Tim Schultz.
“As John 1:14 says, ‘The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighbourhood.’ Our guest, Carl Medearis, will inspire us to whole heartedly follow Jesus, while debunking some of the theories and practices of ‘evangelism.’ Often evangelism has been something we ‘do’ to people and as Carl likes to say, ‘Most people don’t like to be done!'”
Besides the teaching sessions with Carl, there will be breakout sessions that focus on storytelling, discussion, practical equipping and prayer. Each breakout session will be facilitated by people who live what they teach.
“All our facilitators are life practitioners and fellow learners who have gotten their hands dirty; they’re not just ‘talking heads’ teaching theory,” explains Tim Schultz.
Some of the session streams offered include, “Justice: Becoming Friends With The Poor,” “The Arts: The Redemptive Work of God Through Beauty and Peace,” Authentic Community: Helping People Deal With Their Junk,” “Planting Simple Missional Communities With Our Neighbours,” “The Next Generation,” and “Worship: An Encounter With Jesus That Fuels Mission.”
Each primary session will highlight various forms of ancient/future worship styles as well as prayer for the sick and Spirit-inspired words of encouragement. Kids five and up will also have the opportunity to get involved in a creative hands-on visual art project while in the primary sessions, so they can see, hear and participate in what God is doing.
In Schultz’ words, “We highly value ‘family on mission together!'”
“Simply Jesus” takes place March 2-3 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Calgary. Cost is $79.99/adult, $149.99/married couple and $194/family. For more information and to register securely online, visit http://www.themosaicnetwork.net/events/simply-jesus-carl-medearis/
